What is the recommenced/preferred ground cover for dog play yards at a shelter? (Pea gravel, sand, other?) Thanks!

After 4 years of dealing with pea gravel we changed to Forever Lawn.  We find it easy to clean, easy on the dogs' feet and an all around much better surface.  It is guaranteed for life and has worked and held up very well.  It is expensive but doesn't have to be replaced like the gravel.
