Animal Welfare Professionals

I’m trying to get budget information on a few different shelters (public and private). Are shelters legally obligated to provide that information or is it available somewhere?  

Laws may vary by state. Any governmental agency has transparency laws and you can usually get a copy of records by contacting the City Secretary's Office. May cities have their budgets posted publicly already or have an online request form, so check their websites. Private entities do not have to release this information in my state, but most will gladly provide it if you ask.
