  • 1.  Have you heard about the Get 'Em Home Challenge?

    Posted 08-21-2018 05:49 PM

Registration for the Get ‘em Home Challenge has begun! Maddie’s Fund is hosting a contest over a 3-month period, October 1 to December 31 2018, to get dogs and cats adopted who have been in the shelter for over 30 days. We’re looking for creative approaches to getting dogs and cats into homes and engaging your volunteers, staff and community. Any dog or cat adoption organization with a physical shelter can register.

We have more than $50,000 in grants up for grabs for shelters in the United States, which will be awarded after the end of the Challenge. You have from now until September 17, 2018 to register. There’s a sample registration survey on the Challenge webpage so that you can check out what you need to do to register.

Join the Get ‘Em Home Challenge group here in the forum to make sure you learn about opportunities related to the Challenge. We’ll be hosting regular Get ‘Em Home Huddles where a brief presentation (5 minutes) will be followed by time for Q&A - the first session will be Thursday, August 30 at noon PT.

Register now and let’s Get ‘Em Home!

We have a physical shelter but only ~25% are housed there, the rest in foster. Instructions stated majority should be at shelter. Would we qualify? (we definitely have many long term animals!)

    Hi SFritz,

What does 25% mean in terms of numbers? What percent of pets in your physical shelter are long stay? Or do most of your long stay  stay in foster?

We have ~50 animals with 10-15 at shelter. I'm not very familiar with the cats (allergies), but I know almost all the dogs are long term.

    Hi Kitten911Rescue,

We really admire what you are doing to save lives- we developed this challenge in part because we believe so strongly in foster homes. Pets are happier in foster homes!  This challenge is specifically to get pets OUT of shelter environments, so not for rescues. However, you are welcome to join our Challenge group in the forum and attend Huddles to learn about things that might help you to find homes for pets. Are you a kitten only org or do you help adults and/or dogs too?
