If you are a government shelter, do you have a contract with your local humane society to take animals?   Or do you just work with them organically?  Is there a reason you do or don't have a contract?  And how is it working?

We do not have a contract with our local humane society, and they do not really take animals from us.  To be honest, I have never even thought about suggesting a contract, but will definitely be interested to hear other responses on this thread about how that works!

We work organically with a local humane society to help with taking animals from us.  They are a great partner and we haven't had a need for a contract with them.

We are a nonprofit with a contract with a municipal agency. We have a very unique makeup. We share the shelter we're in with two municipal agencies and take 100% of the animals that come in to the shelter (as long as they're not deemed dangerous or are suffering from incurable pain or illness, which doesn't happen often). We're been in partnership with the Town of Truckee Animal Services for over 20yrs and have a formal contract with them. We also share our building with Eastern Placer County Animal Control. We operate all programs and services (outreach, education, pet therapy, adoptions, etc). It's been a great partnership for a long time!

Our situation is that we are the city shelter, and up until recently the humane society shared our space.  When dogs transferred to them for adoption, they stayed in our facility and we continued to care for them.  They just did the adoptions.  We had a contract with them outlining each organization's roles.  Now that they have their own facility, we are still transferring dogs to them, but they have requested a new contract.  I'm trying to find a government shelter that has a contract with a humane society with their own facility that covers animal transfers.

Hello Im in charge of intake/transport here at the humane society in my town, we work with multiple recues & local animal control all the time and we never have any contracts with our partners. I'm not sure if its like this at everylocation, but i do know we do not go out and do rescues ourselves, so we really need these local rescues to go out and save these animals from the streets. teamwork makes the dream work!
to become a partner with us, we usually just take down your information and put you in the system as a partner. we prioritize our partners especially if they have animals they pull from the euthanasia list/rescued from abuse.
I would reach out to your local intake coordinator for the humane society and ask to be a partner!
