    Hi,
I am looking for recommendations for an inventory control system for medications. Do any of the shelters that complete medical treatments, procedures and surgeries use Cubex?

    Serena,

This is a great question.   I have used Cubex at a previous for profit clinic that I worked at a few years ago and it was awesome.  It made things much easier to track for inventory purposes. When I used it you had to use your fingerprint to access the system and input the pets name and then the owner would pop up. Once located the owner you had to verify the script and once you verified what medication, shampoo or supplement you needed then a portion of the cubex would light up and then a small section would open up (where the actual product was located) and then once the doors were secure the lights would go out and the open doors would lock and you had to do this process for each pet and each medication.  I know the process seems long but it was actually quick and efficient. It did help track products and eliminated confusion with being sure the right meds were dispensed and to the correct pet etc. With the cases being locked it did help eliminate theft and mishandling of meds so overall it was a good system.

At my current clinic we do not use this system as it is a little too expensive for us at this time. Right now we use our clinic software (Vetter) to track all of our inventory and it is done by our trainer and clinic supervisor, and myself and our medical director oversee it.  I should have mentioned before that my current clinic is a low cost spay/neuter clinic, low cost full service clinic and shelter all in one building.  I hope this information is helpful.
