Need Commercial Insurance for a Foster-Based Kitten Rescue in Florida

    Hello & Meow!

Does anyone have an insurance company that will write a policy for a Foster-Based Kitten Rescue in FLORIDA?!?  We are wanting to hold adoption events at pet stores, but need insurance in case a kitten scratches or bites someone.  I am struggling to find an insurance company that understands what we need, let alone will write a policy!

PS.  I did search the knowledgebase and could not find any information and I had no idea what topics to choose, so I guessed.  LOL!

Not sure my answer is that relevant since I am at a municipal agency and we are self-insured by the city, however when I ran the Humane Society we got a letter showing we were insured from our insurance company; not anything specific for off-site adoption events.

Do you already have some kind of insurance to do adoptions, etc? I would say just ask them for a proof of insurance letter to submit to the store.

We are a foster based cat rescue in Wisconsin that hosts adoption events in stores. We have Liberty Mutual Insurance.  It looks like they also write in Florida.  If you want to post your email I can forward you what we have.  It's $551 a year.

Such a good question and I'd love to know too :)

Just saw this older article from BF which has some good info and companies listed:
    https://resources.bestfriends.org/article/animal-rescue-insurance

I *believe that from conferences I've heard that AllState is a "friend" of animal welfare (but that may be more for pet "owners")...

I'm super curious about folks' experience with AWOIP - anyone using them and have feedback?
@Kelly Duer anything learned since we had a foster insurance convo years ago? :)

When some friends and I started a rescue a few years ago, we got Cincinnati Insurance (through Andersen Insurance). It was not inexpensive, but it was worth it. The rescue was planning to pull pets directly from euthanasia lists, and we didn't want to be put in a situation where if a dog bites, the rescue has to euthanize for insurance reasons. We met with Andersen and brought like 2 pages of questions about our coverage if we had an animal bite. They were great and our coverage was really solid.

If I were to do it over again, I'd also speak with Animal Welfare Organization Insurance Program.

Thank you for your reply Alexis!  QT Kittens does not currently have any insurance and have reached out to our homeowners' insurance, but there were issues, so I am searching for exactly what we need!  Have a great day!!!
