Those of you that have wait lists for animals needing to come into your shelter:  what does this look like?  What information is on there?

Hi Samantha! We use google forms. All of our surrender forms--owner surrender dogs and cats, kitten, small animal and barn animal (we have a barn as part of our shelter) are all accessible on our website.

Once someone submits a form, we use the spreadsheet that google forms automatically generates as a waiting list. We get in touch with people in order of submission and pending the animal meets admission criteria (ex. not a feral cat). We use color coding with the fonts to mean different things.

For example, we will change the font color in the spreadsheet to blue for people we have gotten in contact with, purple means they have rehomed the animal on their own without the need for shelter surrender, red is denied for intake, green is intake scheduled, etc. We used to have a paper waiting list but it got SO messy and unorganized.

The google form spreadsheets have been wonderful and can still be accessed by multiple staff and remains much more organized. We also created sub pages that we copy and paste the info into once the animal has been admitted to the shelter and they are labeled with titles such as: surrendered, rehomed on own, no response/unable to contact, etc. This also helps us pull and track admission data.

I do work for  private non-profit animal shelter and our county agency takes in all stray dogs so we do not handle stray dogs during their legal stray hold (3 days here in Ohio).

I hope this was of some help/insight into a different way of keeping a waiting list!
