    Hi Everyone,

Our longtime director retired last Thursday, and on my first official day Friday, we received confirmation that one of our recently adopted puppies from two days before had tested positive for leptospirosis.

The puppy's adopters were incredibly compassionate and chose to humanely euthanasia. The state has since required a 10-day quarantine, and we're waiting on the official start date. Two littermates remain in quarantine, and we've implemented deep cleaning, increased rodent control, and ordered Lepto vaccines and SNAP tests. We believe rodent activity was the likely source and are considering adding leptospirosis vaccination to our intake protocol moving forward.

I'd love to hear from others who've managed Lepto cases or shelter quarantines that have to do with that particular disease, what worked best for you in terms of operational flow, staff/volunteer safety, and communication with adopters or the public?

Thank you for sharing your experience and for the support this community provides.
