Hi Chris,
We are based in the Lake Tahoe area and do not have 24hr vet care anywhere around the lake or in our town (our vets just don't have the demand to make it feasible). We have to send after hour emergency fosters to either Carson City, NV (if they are in the South Lake Tahoe area) or Reno, NV (if they are in the Truckee/North Lake Tahoe area). It's not a perfect and it can be hard when snow (or any type of weather) is also involved, but it's worked out so far.

Subject: After-hours vet care
We just learned that the emergency vet clinic in our area is no longer providing services from 10 pm to 6 am. I'm wondering how others address emergency veterinary incidents that arise in the absence of a 24-hr clinic. This has implications for how we handle field services calls but also for medical concerns that arise in foster care and for owned pets that may deteriorate/suffer/perish in absence of prompt medical attention. Do you have vet staff on-call or contract with a local vet clinic for afterhours services? Are there other options?
