    The application window is now open from March 8-12 for our Spring 2021 Online Apprenticeships!

    Maddie's Fund online apprenticeships provide an opportunity for organizations looking to improve their practices to benefit from the wisdom shared by well established innovative programs. The apprenticeships require completion of self-paced online materials as well as attendance at four 90-minute weekly Zoom meetings with your instructor and classmates and a final project is required. Only 30 students will be admitted to each apprenticeship and the selection process is competitive.

    Feline Lifesaving

    Learn how to create and manage essential cat programs, lead staff and volunteers to accomplish goals and be as effective as possible with limited resources. With the engaging @Monica Frenden, Maddie's Director of Feline Lifesaving at American Pets Alive! at your side, your live outcomes are surely to increase.
    Who should apply?
    This learning opportunity is for shelter/rescue organization directors, managers and coordinators who are empowered to make changes and launch new initiatives in their organizations.

    A New Model for Shelter Care: Replace Kennels with Foster Homes

    Does placing 50% or more of your shelter pets into foster homes seem like a dream? Make "high volume" foster care a reality with @Kelly Duer, Foster Care Specialist at Maddie's Fund at the helm. You'll hear from foster staff at several shelters that are redefining "high volume" foster care. You'll discuss the biggest challenges with foster-centric sheltering and how you can avoid them. You will learn to utilize the seven guiding principles of foster care to set your organization up for foster success; create a year-round, comprehensive foster recruitment plan that extends the invitation to foster to all members of your community; create a community culture of fostering to make foster the standard of care; create a process for marketing and adopting pets from foster care; and utilize staff and volunteers to assist with management of foster care.
    Who should apply?
    This learning opportunity is for shelter/rescue organization directors and staff who are interested in learning how to be the most effective at implementing this type of program in their organization. Organizations with limited staff and financial resources are encouraged to apply, as the programs taught may actually reduce operating costs. You are also welcome to apply for two staff members to attend, as implementation is more likely the more staff complete the course.

    Shelter Clinic Management

    Do you want to learn how to balance quality care with caring for a large volume of animals? Do you want to ensure each animal in your care receives the medical care and kindness they deserve? Join @Jordana Moerbe, Maddie's Medical Program Advisor at American Pets Alive!, for this essential course. The apprenticeship will teach you how to manage a busy shelter clinic including staffing; communication both within the team and with other teams; increasing your organization's capacity for medical foster care through effective communication and telemedicine; and triaging contagious diseases.
    Who should apply?
    This learning opportunity is for clinic leaders who are interested in learning how to be most effective at implementing this type of program in their organization.

    Please note that to apply for acceptance into a Maddie's Fund apprenticeship, your organization must be a U.S. based 501c3 or government animal welfare organization. All Maddie's University courses are pre-approved for CAWA CE. Learn more about the Spring 2021 online apprenticeships here.
