Hello newcomers and seasoned members alike!!

We had such a tremendous amount of responses on our previous welcome thread that we decided it was time to close the old thread and start a new one (and frankly, there were over 370 comments on the old one that it was slowing things down πŸ˜…).  You can still view the previous thread here to see all of the great responses but if you're new to Maddie's Pet Forum, haven't had a chance to introduce yourself to the community or your answers have changed, now is your time to shine!

Please take a moment to introduce yourself by answering these three questions:

    • Where are you from? (city, state, organization, etc.)
    • What do you do? (your job, volunteer position, life's calling, etc.)
    • If you could be ANY animal, what would you be and why?

And feel free to be creative!

    Hiya!

    • I'm from Pasco County Animal Services, located in Land O' Lakes, Florida (just north of Tampa)!
    • I'm the Volunteer & Foster Care Coordinator. I've been here since January 2018
    • If I could be any animal, it would without a doubt be an Axolotl. Regrow organs? Cute feathery gills? Stay in the water my whole life? Sign me up!

OK, that is the most amazing little creature ever! How have I never heard of an Axolotl before?! That picture reminds me of an upgraded version of the Sea Monkeys I wanted as a kid that ended up just being brine shrimp and not amazing little creatures wearing crowns and sitting around on their sea monkey couches. Wow!

    Welcome, Sarah!

Hi. I'm with the Beaver County Humane Society in Aliquippa, PA (western PA).

I'm the Marketing and Development Manager and have been at BCHS since June 1, 2021.

I would be a Greyhound. I have two retired racing Greyhounds (I've had 6 total). Unlike me, they are nice and thin, they run very fast, get to sleep most of the day, and people are in awe of them wherever we go! LOL.  But they also have the very best life because Greyhound adopters are very committed, rarely have just one, and spoil their Greys daily!

Welcome to te community. I have been to Aliquippa a few times in my life. I am from Ohio and had family there.  I adore Greyhounds.  I fell in love with them when I worked at a doggy daycare a while ago. They are absolutely adorable.  Welcome!!!

Hello  my new animal welfare friends,

My name is Marissa Reid and I work for an amazing organization called LifeLine Animal  Project in Atlanta, Georgia and I have been employed here since April of 2017.

In  my current role as Clinic Director I oversee day to day operations for both our Community Animal Center and College Park locations. I wear many different hats. I do everything from staffing and training to actually working positions when we are short handed.  My current role is important to me because the health and welfare of the animals, clients and staff depends on my leadership and ability to get things done and problem solve at any given minute.

I do not think that I am one animal I like to belive that I am a mixture of quite a few.  Sometimes  I am a lion because I have to be " King" and take charge because my team depends on my direction and leadership.   Almost all the time I am like a starfish because I have to have tough skin in order to survive in the animal welfare field and the tough things that we see on a day to day basis. In most other times I have to be an ant because ants do not act individually, instead they behave accotding to the needs of the colony.  In my leadership role I have to make decisions based on what is good for my colony and tha is my entire team from my employees, the animals,  the clients , my co-workers all while being a positive representation of my organization and being a voice for the animals who cannot speak or care for themselves.

I aboslutely LOVE mu job and what I do and even though it is tough and emotionally taxing a lot of the time  I won't quit and I woukd nt change all of the things that I have been through to get to this point. I am s excited to be a aprt of this community and I hope that I can use my knowledge and skills to make a positive impact with this new community.  I  look forward to ineteracting with you all.

I am a volunteer animal foster-person (especially cats and kittens,) for the Regina Humane Society in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.  My work persona is as a Unit Clerk in a hospital setting.  I've been a foster-person for cats for a number of years, though I have slowed down for the last 2 years due to work-related issues.  If I could be any animal, my current favourite animal would be the Clouded Leopard.  I am amazed by their agility and acrobatics in trees.  They are one of the few cats that are supposed to be able to go headfirst up and down a tree.  I also love baby elephants because of their seeming happy nature.  I love animals but haven't ever had much opportunity to work with them as a job.  I love reading and learning how to better care for stray or behaviour challenged cats.  Have a great day!

    Hi there!

I am Dani but most people know me as Dani the Cat Lady. I am from Hudson, FL

I am the founder and president of a rescue called The Runaways Animal Rescue. We just finished renovating a 7000 sq ft old church that we turned into our dream brick and mortar shelter facility.

If I could be any animal, I would be a house cat. Sleep all day and eat snacks when I'm not napping? Sounds like a dream. Also I would have claws and could scale just about anything I wanted? Adorable tiny ninja? Sounds like a dream, lol.

Hi! I'm Xena Rivers, from Austin Pets Alive! in Texas. I'm the Neonatal Kitten Foster Recruitment Lead.

The animal question is interesting -- I've always had the closest affinity for wolves, but I never spent much time thinking about why! But it's for lots of reasons...I love the forest, and would love to be able to romp in the snow without getting cold! Wolves are also both loving and ferocious, and know when each is applied best.

If I could be an imaginary animal, I'd be a dragon 'cause I'd get to fly and live in the mountains (breathing fire is a bonus).

Welcome everypawdy! This is such a fun topic to watch, and see all the great work y'all are doing in all parts of the globe. THANK YOU!

As for me, I'm not involved in direct hands-on rescue, but more like an ancillary service for rescue folks:

    • Where are you from? (city, state, organization, etc.)  Fort Collins, Colorado is Tripawds home base right now, but our RV is flying south for winter very soon!
    • What do you do? (your job, volunteer position, life's calling, etc.) I am the co-founder of Tripawds.com and Tripawds Foundation, the world's largest support community for animal amputees and their people. Between my husband and I, and a couple of volunteers, we do it all here to help people and pets live their best lives on 3 legs.
    • If you could be ANY animal, what would you be and why? A bald eagle. They are incredible birds to watch, and always seem to make people stop and go "Awwwww" when they fly overhead.
P.S. Be sure to check out the Tripawds Rescue Fund just for (future) amputee animals in rescue care!

    Hi all--

Heidi here, from WAMAL, otherwise known as Washington Alaskan Malamute Adoption League (you can see why WAMAL is most often used!) We service WA state and OR to rescue malamutes in need. They are floofy and beautiful and love humans but are happy to kill small creatures, so they are a challenging breed to get into the right home.

I've been involved with this rescue for 2 malamutes, and  happen to be in Corvallis OR.

If I could be any animal? Alive. And better, Loved.

    • I'm with Willamette Humane Society in Salem, OR and I live on a farm near the tiny rural town of Scio, about 35 minutes SE of Salem.
    • I'm currently the Executive Director. I started my animal welfare career here as the kennel manager in 2005.
    • If I could be ANY animal, I would be a raven, a bird I have admired as long as I can remember. They are super smart, have extended social networks, possess incredible memory, love bright shiny objects just because they are beautiful, are acrobatic flyers, and have complex language and communication. And they are talented problem solvers, using or inventing tools if needed.

    Hello!
    • Where are you from? (city, state, organization, etc.).  I am from Fremont, CA near Silicon Valley and the Bay Area. Ohlone Humane Society rescue
    • What do you do? (your job, volunteer position, life's calling, etc.)  I manage the new (2021) Community Cat Outreach program educating the community about Trap-Neuter-Return, spay and neuter, community cats and found kittens, ear tips, how to trap for TNR, and much more. Before I started this program I was a foster in our kitten program helping found kittens in the community and learning about trapping and TNR.
    • If you could be ANY animal, what would you be and why?   I would be a cat. Light on my feet and landing on them most of the time sounds good to this clumsy lady and they are so soft and flexible. My foster kittens are so bendy when they nap cuddling each other in the sunshine soaked window hammock. Ahh, that would be a nice life!

Hello, I'm running the behavior program at Pasado's Safe Haven sanctuary in Washington State. I started as a volunteer on farm and in our healing barn, worked four years as a dog caregiver, earned my certificate in Applied Animal Behavior at the University of Washington, am currently enrolled in The Academy for Dog Trainers, and have now moved into behavior. I love our 85 acre sanctuary and our team on a mission to end animal cruelty.

Although I work with dogs, cats, and our many farm animals, if I could be any animal I'd be one of the beautiful, serene, and free black-tailed deer who roam the hills of the sanctuary.

Hi everyone! So nice to meet you all.

    • I'm from Kitsap Humane Society in Silverdale, WA - just a ferry ride away from Seattle and nestled in between the Olympic Mountains and the Puget Sound! We've got a phenomenal view of Mt. Rainier from the hill just up from our shelter, which you can see on a very clear day.
    • I am the Director of Marketing and will be celebrating my one-year anniversary at KHS this Thursday, Nov 18! I've been in animal welfare off and on since 2014.
    • If I could be any animal, I'd want to be a Peregrine falcon. I'd love to be able to fly! They are super fast and can be found almost everywhere on earth, plus, the females of the species are up to 30% larger than the males - wow! I first learned about peregrine falcons when I was a kid - I was obsessed with the book My Side of the Mountain where the main character had a companion peregrine falcon named Frightful. I desperately wished I could live in a tree in the forest with a bird sidekick!

Hi!  Oh, my what a great group.  I am not so computer savvy but I think I have done this correctly!!

    - Where are you from? (city, state, organization, etc.)  I am Amy Fisher from a small, country town named Carencro in Southwest Louisiana.  The town is located between Lafayette and Opelousas in the heart of Cajun Country.  Almost a year ago I opened Positively Cats Sanctuary for FeLV and FIV positive cats to offer the local Vets and Rescues an alternative to euthanasia.

    - What do you do? (your job, volunteer position, life's calling, etc.) Positively Cats Sanctus a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.  Many people have volunteered and helped me to get started and to care for the cats who now reside in the 1-room house.  I also have a part time job at a local high volume, low cost Spay/Neuter clinic.  I am retired from nursing (of the human kind) and I take care of the feeding, cleaning, medicating and loving on the cats and kittens until they are well and socialized and ready for adoption.  It's kind of like the work I do at home for fosters, ferals, sanctuary residents and my pets.  I just do the same things in several places and with different kitties.  The big difference is I am the director of the Sanctuary, I am the caregiver to my own cats, I am the mom-cat to the fosters and I am the greeter and the first smiling face someone sees when they bring their pets to be spayed or neutered and thus becoming a part of the solution instead of staying a part of the pet overpopulation.

    - If you could be ANY animal, what would you be and why?  I have the "independent and self sufficient" personality of a cat.  AND the "I'll love you to make you happy" trait of a cat.  AND the "I can get what I need either by myself or you will get it for me"ability of a cat!!   This is not to say I don't like other small animals but cats are not a mystery to me.  My soul is with my cats.  My dogs have jobs to do and my rabbits are my show-off animals.  My cats at work and at home are the reason I smile every day!

My name is Rishav and I am a novelist. I have written fan fiction for years in addition to original contemporary romance and romantic suspense stories. I am currently working on a stand-alone full-length animal book for kids. My current goals are to finish the first full-length book and then complete at least three books in the series.

I have been joining various animal volunteer opportunities in the state as well as abroad. Recently, I adopted a 31-pound cat Milo and a rescued dog in Oklahoma. Recently, I have contributed my inputs to a blog on pet cameras  for my colleague Tuba.

I have joined this forum to learn more about animal welfare and complete my three books in the series.

Hi, I'm from Bostwick, FL, a very rural town in Putnam County FL.

I'm a volunteer at SAFE Pet Rescue.  I walk dogs, transport animals, foster and when needed clean kennels at the shelter.  Prior to SAFE taking over the facility I was the office manager at The Human Society of Northeast  Florida where I wore many hats.  Loved my job.

I always thought if I came back I'd like to be a turtle.  I spent many a summer at a lake and enjoyed watching the turtles sunbathe on a log.  I thought how peaceful it would be.  Plus you could always crawl back in to your shell if need be.

Welcome @Cyndy D'Agostine! Thanks for all you do at the shelter, it's not easy doing that kind of work in a rural area.

I love why you want to be a turtle. I never thought of them like that before, but you're right, it would be so nice to have a safe space shell wherever you travel!

I am currently a cat volunteer and secretary on The Board of Directors with Community Animal Rescue Effort  (C.A.R.E.) in Skokie. IL.

What kind of Animal would I be?  I know it is not the most creative answer, but I'm going with house cat.  I can do what I want, when I want, and take long naps in sun puddles.
