    Hello!

Sharing the agendas for the next four Maddie's Monday Shelter and Rescue Support Calls (LINK TO REGISTER):

Quick Reminder: You can also watch previous recordings and continue the conversation at Maddie's Pet Forum!

    01/31/22

National Update: Shelter Animals Count will be joining us to give up a sneak peek at what is new for 2022!

Session One: Co-Sheltering and Animal Welfare Program (CSAW) at GRACE Marketplace - Gainesville, FL Recognizing that the human-animal bond is valuable and worth preserving through times of homelessness, GRACE has become the first "animal-friendly" low-barrier homeless shelter in the region, accepting guests with Service Animals, Emotional Support Animals, and Companion Animals. The Co-Sheltering and Animal Welfare Program (CSAW) compliments regular shelter services at GRACE by providing animal accommodations for people entering emergency shelter or visiting campus. Riley Yates, the Animal Welfare Coordinator (AWC), is responsible for coordinating all animal services, providing oversight of animal welfare, and ensuring the health and safety of staff, guests, and visitors.

Session Two: Austin Pets Alive! has been working diligently to restructure animal sheltering by helping keep pets OUT of the shelter in the first place.

PASS (Positive Alternatives to Shelter Surrender) supports hundreds of community members each month by helping them understand their options, find resources, and obtain urgent help so they can get through tough times without reaching the last resort: Surrendering their pets.

Lucy Fernandez will join us to share their story, and dive into one of the key components of the APA! life saving formula: PASS!

    02/07/22

Session One: The presentation will discuss the process for how the HASS Facility Guideline document was created and how it aligns with the Elements of HASS. The guideline outlines a new model for a community animal care center with decentralized services and how your organization can easily get started. Facilities of the future should have flexible, adaptive spaces that are used as a tool to answer the needs of individual communities.

Speaker Panel: Caty Townsend – Animal Arts, Beau Archer – Humane Rescue Alliance, Dr. Sandra Strong, DVM – Orange County Animal Services and Sara Price – Seattle Area Feline Rescue

Session Two: Marley's Mutts Pawsitive Change Program will be joining us to share about their program and host a panel discussion with professionals that have been through their program.

    02/14/22

Session One: My Dog Is My Home (MDIMH) is a nonprofit in the U.S. dedicated to preserving the human-animal bond, specifically through increasing access to shelter and housing for people experiencing homelessness with their companion animals.  MDIMH's second annual Co-Sheltering Conference, to be held virtually on March 1-3, 2022, will provide a learning and community-building space for animal welfare organizations, homeless services providers, government administrators, and academics committed to co-sheltering.  Sarah Hernandez, MDIMH's Communications Fellow, will discuss the organization's mission and the upcoming conference, themed "Stronger Together: Building Allyship Between Movements."

Session Two: Join Dogs Playing For Life (DPFL) CEO/Founder Aimee Sadler to share what they learned in their practical application of the science around behavior evaluations. They moved away from battery tests quite some time ago, opting to observe and record behavior via checkpoint systems throughout a dog's stay in the shelter (the Longmont Humane Society). Their lifesaving increased and length of stay decreased as they learned to work "smarter" while prioritizing quality of life for the dogs and their caretakers!

02/21/22 - No Meeting (Presidents' Day)
