I have never done this before but wanted to put it out to as many people as possible.

I am looking to sell my beautiful acre and home in Bay Minette, Alabama. I need a special person/people for it because I have an established feral cat colony here.

My husband passed a year and a  half ago. I don't drive and even getting simple things done has been a challenge.

It sits on an acre of land with fruit trees, it's truly beautiful here with an open back porch and a front porch to sit on.  An hour away from beautiful beaches and 45 minutes from Mobile and an hour from Pensacola Florida. If you boat or fish, you're maybe five miles from a boat launch and the Tensaw river. It's beautiful there and lots of wildlife.

It's a mellow way of life here. If you drive you'll be amazed at all there is to do. This is Jimmy Buffett territory,  and the vibe is laid back. The town of Bay Minette (it is a city-but being from New York-it reminds me of a small town) is a mellow place. Aside from people on their way to work, you may not see anyone else all day.  We have wildlife here as well, I have a flock of feral chickens that eats my cats food on the porch. I have two possums that live here, Senior Gordo and Sassypants and two raccoons, Madeline and Christy.  I have an armidillo that comes and eats and I've seen fox and even some little weasel type guys one morning.   The house is a double wide custom made mobile home with siding. It has a working fireplace and split level with two bedrooms and a bath on one side and one bedroom and the master bath on the other.

I've had people call and want to buy-but they are brokers. I need this place to go to someone who loves cats and would be willing to take on a cat colony here. All but 2 newcomers are spayed/neutered.  Those two we're working on-they are new males that just showed. A few of the cats have been here many years-I had the dad of three of them inside as he had health issues. The adult kittens are now nine years old and know people. You can pet them on their terms. I bring in two in bad weather but again-on their terms.  I think they would be miserable moving as this is their home. I'm 68 and without my husband things are just too much for me here. The local real estate valued it at about 200,000 but what matters to me more than money is to make sure the cats are loved and cared for.  If you know of anyone that would fit the bill, or you're interested, please reach out to me. So much work for animals needs to be done here-and in this town. But there are many good people here, and many from other areas as well. Thank you, Deb. I can be reached at mommytocats@gmail.com or 718 501 0799.

Oh how I wish we could afford it.  Itd be perfect and we'd love it but it's not in our budget. Good luck!

I don't know what the laws are in your state, but I advise checking with a real estate attorney.  You might be able to put some deed restrictions on your land  regarding the maintenance of the feral colony.  That won't guarantee the care happens, however.

I live about 20 minutes West of New Orleans, Lousiana. I am in the same boat. Selling my home and moving out of the country. I have an outside colony of 12 cats and 4 indoor cats. I have reached out to as many rescue groups unsucessfully. Just a couple cats are adoptable.  Their lifes will be changed for ever. I plan to spend a fortune to bring them with me  - some but not all. Four cats will stay behind with the understading that my neighbor will temporary feed them.  I will ship them the cat food using Chewy. The most important part here that I wanted to share with you here: My realtor is a friend of mine and I have emphasized that I will only sell my home to CAT LOVERS or at least animal lovers. I told her that I plan to interview prospet buyers and if they do not want to take care of the cats. BYE BYE. I also wanted to put the clause in the contract or whatever. These are my thoughts for you.

What a wonderful opportunity for someone!  You'll need to be creative in how and where you market it--Facebook cat groups come in all shapes and sizes, for example, and many aren't location-specific.

In the meantime, is there any chance of recruiting part-time live-in help?  To help with the heavier jobs and with driving?  Because it may take a while to find the right buyer.

    Good luck!

    April,

It's been marketed as best I can do. The problem is I cannot get cat help here. I've had issues from the time I got here and without my husband they are worse because now it's all on me. It is impossible to find help that is reliable at all, and I live in an area where if you drive it's fine but I don't. I get deliveries but even the constant work that goes with having to care for all isn't possible for much longer. My arthritis and other issues have made it impossible really which is why I'm looking to get out. When my husband was alive things were managable and our plan had been to eventually move. What is ironic is that five of the cats we currently have were left with us by a rescue who they said they didn't have room to take them back. She's kindly 'offered' for me to bring them to Petsmart on their huge adoption days but I don't drive. Most people have quit the rescue because she has done similar things to them.  I asked her to post for me, and she told me ' you can't leave, people will lie and leave them to starve'. She and other rescues here don't care at all. I did not take on these cats. They showed up in my yard. We got them all fixed and got them shots. Some are feral, some semi feral, some friendly. I have 2 that belonged to a neigbhbor but her new cats and mothers dog terrorize him so he's over here. I never planned nor did I want this responsiblity but I have no choice. But now health issues have made it all but impossible to care for them as I should. I fell on the back stairs last week and needed stitches.
