  • 1.  Scents used for Dog and Cat Enrichment

    Posted 07-31-2022 07:01 PM
    Hi,

We are developing approved list of scents for our shelter enrichment program and in doing research on the scents that are safe to use for dog and cat enrichment and I am finding a lot of conflicting information on what is safe to use. Does any one have veterinary approved lists that they use for their enrichment program?

    Hi Rebecca!

I don't have a veterinary approved list to be able to share with you, but do have a suggestion for dog-safe scents.  I'm not sure if you have a hunting supply store near you (although I suspect, being in Texas, you might) but at our shelter we use the training scents sold at hunting stores such as rabbit, deer, and duck. They're specifically formulated to be safe for dogs, and I feel like it's an under-utilized scent category in enrichment plans. All our dogs love it!
