Maddie's Insights: Increasing Engagement in Kitten Fostering Programs: Lessons Learned from High Kitten Intake Zip Codes in Los Angeles County

Debra Olmedo and Greg Miller of the ASPCA will provide an overview of recent research aimed at identifying ways to increase awareness and engagement in kitten fostering programs among residents of areas with high intake of kittens to animal shelters. They will discuss the project methodology, what they learned about awareness, interest, and concerns related to fostering, and what opportunities this research highlighted for increasing fostering program engagement.

About the presenters:
Greg Miller (@Greg Miller) is a Senior Director of Research in the Strategy and Research Department of the ASPCA, where he has held positions focused on research and program evaluation since 2011. He holds a Master of Arts degree in Geography from the University of South Florida, is certified as a Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP). His research interests include topics related to spatial analysis, geographically targeted interventions, animal sheltering, community cats, access to veterinary care, and community planning.
Debra Olmedo, RVT (@Debra Olmedo) is a Foster & Community Outreach and Medical Care Senior Manager (Los Angeles) at the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA®). She received a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from California State University, Los Angeles in 2013 and has been a Registered Veterinary Technician since 2009. In her current role, Debra is building a Community Foster Program which focuses on creating sustainable solutions for found kittens and providing High Intensity- Trap-Neuter-Return-Monitor resources for community cats.
