Paws, Purpose & Public Health: Pets as Public Health Partners
Paws, Purpose & Public Health is a two-part webinar series exploring the vital connections between human and animal well-being through a public health lens. Together, we will examine how pets and people positively impact one another’s health, as well as the systemic barriers that threaten these relationships.
Session 1 - Wednesday, September 3 · 12 - 1pm EDT
Pets as Partners in Health
The joys of pet ownership are well known, but what are the evidence-based benefits of human–animal interaction? This session explores the One Health framework, highlighting the shared benefits of human–animal connections. Learn how to prioritize practices that support the well-being of both people and pets, promoting mutual health and happiness across species.

Session 2 - Thursday, September 4 · 12 - 1pm EDT
Barriers to Bond
Companion animals have profound positive effects on human health—physically, emotionally, and socially. Yet inequities such as poverty, housing insecurity, lack of access to veterinary care, and structural racism often undermine a family’s ability to care for their beloved pets. This session will challenge attendees to consider how these inequities manifest in communities and highlight opportunities for cross-sector collaboration to preserve and strengthen the human–animal bond, especially for the most vulnerable.
