The State of Pet-Inclusive Social Service Delivery: A National Snapshot of How Agencies Support Fami

When:  Wed, Aug 19, 2026 from 01:00 PM to 02:00 PM (ET)

Pets are part of 71% of US households and often considered family members, but they are frequently overlooked in social services. As more people rely on pets for companionship, emotional support, and stability, crises such as homelessness, domestic violence, financial hardship, or transportation barriers can force families to choose between accessing services and keeping their pets safe.

This webinar shares findings from a national survey of 209 U.S. social service agencies conducted by the Center for Pet Family Well-Being at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The study examines how agencies currently address clients’ pets, barriers to pet-inclusive services, opportunities for collaboration between social services and animal welfare organizations, and the resources agencies need to better integrate pets into a Whole Family and One Health approach.

Participants will gain insight into the current state of pet-inclusive programming and explore practical strategies for recognizing pets as an important part of family well-being and service planning.
