As one of the fastest-growing counties in the country, Maricopa County Animal Care & Control (MCACC) has become one of the largest open-admission municipal shelters in the nation. We Require
Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine
Other Requirements
Valid Arizona Veterinarian license, upon hire
Valid Arizona Driver’s License, upon hire
Drug Enforcement Agency Certification
We Also Value
Experience as a veterinarian at a spay/neuter clinic or animal shelter
Experience in shelter medicine
Experience using Chameleon software
Job Contributions
Examine impounded, in-house, and fostered shelter animals to perform diagnostics, create treatment plans, prescribe therapeutics, and determine appropriate disposition for incoming animals
Execute spay/neuter surgeries, perform dental extractions, read and interpret radiograph studies, and perform non-witnessed, owner-requested euthanasia
Evaluate animals for release from bite quarantine
Monitor, dispense, and log, controlled substances and maintain medical records.
Participate in biweekly onsite vaccination clinics
Provide training to clinic, shelter, and field staff members
Deliver exceptional customer service to internal and external clients
Working Conditions
Fast-paced animal shelter environment with exposure to extreme and varying temperatures, dogs and cats with unknown temperaments and behaviors, excessive noise, animal waste, and fluids, deceased animals, cleaning chemicals, and zoonotic diseases
Ability to lift, bend, stoop, stand, and walk on various surfaces, including slippery, uneven, and rough
