    Posted 05-03-2020 04:11 AM

    Hi All.

As many are doing during these strange times, we are taking the time to do things we never have time to do. One thing is one of our employees finally has time to finish our new website.

We have added an Education/Training Tips tab.

Does anyone have suggestions on where I can find Education/Training/Behavior/Socialization documents that can be uploaded for the public to utilize once they bring their adopted dog or cat home?

    Thank you for your help!

    Ann

Seems like everyone is using electronic delivery for everything these days. There is soooo much information out there, you might take a look and put together a resource list of various applicable sites. A good place to start for cats is https://www.jacksongalaxy.com/ and for dogs, https://positively.com/ (Victoria Stillwell) which is really extensive...blogs, podcasts, videos etc. Some things might have broad appeal for your target audience that could be printed & included in an adoption kit. Or, you might customize based on the adoptee's particular needs (separation anxiety, resource guarding, teach to sit and such).

For education, be sure to join the HEART Network group here in the forum if you haven't already. Quite a few relevant threads there for current humane education resources. There's also an online https://education.muttigrees.org/ that has free access and PDF downloads through JUNE 30th. That sort of thing is usually appreciated in an adoption package especially for younger kids. The Maddie's Tail Wag booklets for kids are great to send home with new adopters and you can order free here: https://www.maddiesfund.org/maddies-tail-wag.htm (Eng & Sp, delivery was within a few weeks).

As it may be of interest, I've been working with our local Petco trainer to create some content for events and short videos that we can include on our social media. That helps with community outreach and is a great way to thank the store for their generosity if we can help build their business. We have created some of our own children's activity pages and such that are publicly available in the store lobby along with event flyers and that sort of thing.  <3

    Hi Ann.

    Yay for a new website!

There are hundreds of free resources that you can download or link to in our Maddie's Pet Forum Resource Library. I suggest filtering resources by topics like: Adoptions & Adoption Programs, Humane Education or Animal Pet Behavior, Training & Enrichment to find resources that may apply to what you're looking for.

You'll find resources like the Barn Cat Acclimation Guide, Body Language of Feline Anxiety Poster, Bringing Your New Cat Home, Dogs and Children: How to Keep Interactions Safe, Helping Your New Cat Adjust Adopter Handbook, Cats and Kids, Introducing Cats and Dogs, Keeping Your Cat Happy Indoors, DIY Cat Toys, Tips for Transitioning a Dog to Your Home and much, much more!
