Hi! I just got my dog Shikamaru 2 days ago (May 5th) and he keeps coughing but it’s as if it is more like hacking as if he’s trying to throw up or has a hair ball like a cat would do to throw it up. He has not thrown up and I’m concerned for him. He is 2 months old and is getting his second round of shots on the 11th!

Puppies can sometimes get "kennel cough," which is like a cold with a cough in people.  If your puppy isn't eating well, or seems listless, or develops a fever I would recommend having him seen by your vet sooner.  They may elect to postpone his vaccine boosters and either treat and/or monitor him for a week or so.  There are other causes of coughs too, but this one is the most common in a puppy.  If the cough doesn't progress and your puppy starts to feel better, make sure and share this with your vet on the 11th so they can be aware of it.  I hope he feels better soon!!
