Do you know anyone who would like to learn how to put together a High-Quality, High-Volume Spay-Neuter (HQHVSN) clinic for community cats? Has a desire to trap cats that refuse to be trapped? Been looking for a direction for their career in animal welfare that creates immediate, positive impact? This 10-week Fellowship at Operation Catnip will provide all that and more. This opportunity is ideal for a pre-veterinary student, veterinary student, animal welfare personnel, or volunteers seeking to move into the animal welfare field. Fellows will receive a $5000 stipend for the summer. The application deadline is April 5, 2019.
Fellowship participants enjoy 10 weeks of immersion in all things related to community cats. Trap loan and trapping through staging HQHVSN clinics providing TNR for local and regional caregivers will become second nature. (More than one clinic and more than one kind of clinic!) Working closely with Operation Catnip staff and volunteers, they will learn the intricacies of trapping cats – even those elusive kitties - and dealing with all manner of caregivers. They will learn how to set up and organize a HQHVSN clinic utilizing one skilled veterinarian caring for over 40 cats, as well as a MASH style HQHVSN clinic that serves over 200 cats, utilizing and training 100+ volunteers, half of which are veterinary students. They will manage trap inventory and various constituents utilizing several specialized software programs to keep it all nice and tidy. They will collaborate with local animal shelters to respond to community needs and to find the best outcome for every individual cat. While they are absorbing every aspect of managing community cats, expect that staff and volunteers alike will not hesitate to show them multiple pictures of cats that have stolen their hearts next to gross pictures of eyes that need to be removed or injuries that require repair. They will leave the fellowship with the confidence to take on any project in community cat management and will have developed the skills to succeed!
