  • 1.  Tax Receipt for Discounted Service Amount for Our Vet

For the first time, our vet has requested a donation receipt for the discount amount she gave us last year.  I don't have a problem doing this but unsure of what this particular receipt needs to specify.

According to the IRS, "Although you cannot deduct the value of your time or services, you can deduct the expenses you incur while donating your services to a qualified organization." So, the vet might be able to deduct their expenses while performing donated services (like supplies or staff salary), but not the full discounted amount. It's probably safest just to write a letter verifying the services performed, the amount you paid, and the date.
