Our shelter is hosting a kids' camp for kids ages 8-12 years. I'm looking for some educational (and hopefully fun/entertaining) videos to share. I'd really love to show them videos on TNR/feral cats and declawing, in particular, but any videos that are good for this age range would be great!

I don't have a suggestion for educational videos but Red Rover has an incredible free e-book app with interactive learning targeted to children ages 7-11. It's an app to help kids practice skills needed for empathy towards animals and others. The app is called "The Restricted Adventures of Raja". Here's a link to their webpage for more details:  https://redrover.org/resource/empathy-app/. It may be great to use in conjunction with your camp!

@Katie Campbell and @Karly Noel, do you have anything to add?

Thanks @Kim at Maddie's Yes! Our Empathy App has worked well in classrooms and kid's camps. There are two books now each with a game. You can download them at www.redrover.org/empathyapp and we have teaching guides in English and Spanish for it too. We also have lesson plans that you might find helpful for your camp like one on the dangers of leaving dogs in hot cars ( https://redrover.org/resource/lessonplans/) and you don't have to have taken the RedRover Readers workshop to access these but our next online training is coming up in October if you are interested.

And, the APHE Nationa Humane Education Conference is coming up in January which will have a ton more camp and humane education program ideas. www.aphe.org

Good luck on your camp. Let us know if you use any RedRover resources in it. We love hearing how it goes.

We did a TNR lesson using a Kitten Lady video and then made tipped ear headbands. We did have to fast forward through the first few seconds because of a certain word (think - male cats have these removed during neuter) but I'd be happy to send you our lesson plan!

I don't have any cat-related videos off the top of my head, but if you plan to do some dog-safety lessons, you might want to check out http://stopthe77.com/ Their videos are targeted for the younger end of that age range, but the catchy songs are probably useful earworms for the older kids even if they roll their eyes! BADRAP has some good dog videos too: http://badrap.org/training-resources/videos-training-management-info

There are a few short, fun videos about microchips here: https://www.foundanimals.org/microchip-registry/bullchip/ Recommend the one on the right for kids. =)
