Does Your State have a Tax Credit for Charitable Giving?

    Good Day--

I would love some dialogue from other animal welfare non-profits who are either interested in qualifying for the State Charitable Tax Credit, or have already figured out how to do it.

Not all states offer this tax credit. Arizona does, but the caveat for animal welfare organizations is that the charity must serve people in a low income bracket and/or people with disabilities. I know that applies to many of the community members my Shelter serves in Arizona, but we have never attempted to capture that information. This is different than a tax deduction--it's a dollar for dollar match for direction of taxes owed. For example, if you owe $400 on your Arizona State taxes you can donate that money to a qualifying charity directly, rather than paying the State. It's a wonderful program to assist Arizona charities...but has anyone figured out how to qualify for it as an animal welfare organization?
