Have other agencies experienced a huge increase in cat adoptions this year and what do you think is driving it? As an open admission shelter we have had a daily count of 300 or more cats in care. We have had a large number of cats adopted every month (the dog adoptions have tanked) but still have a large intake of cats daily. We have theory's, but are curious about what you are experiencing? We are guessing with the economy that people are having to move and there is very little pet friendly housing in our county. We think that with the huge drive for "high density housing" in our area now that cats are less expensive and "low maintenance" pets. All of our cats go out spayed/neutered and fully vaccinated making them a very low maintenance pet. Our dog adoption numbers have declined every year since 2019, but the cat adoption numbers have climbed every year since 2019, with an even more significant rise this year. Any thoughts?
