Who's ready for Expo?! Animal Care Expo kicks off next week from April 19-22 in Orlando, Florida! This year, the Humane Society of the United States is offering their first ever hybrid experience which offers both in-person and virtual sessions.

Virtual Scholarship Recipients #ThanksToMaddie Special shout out to the 180 people across the country who received scholarships to attend their first Animal Care Expo! If you're one of the recipients, please take a moment to introduce yourself below by telling us a little about your organization, your role and what attending expo virtually means to you.

Attending virtually? Tell us in the comments below where you'll be watching expo from and what sessions you're most looking forward to! For all expo attendees (IRL or virtually) don't forget that sharing is caring! We hope you will share with the Maddie's Pet Forum community some of your favorite takeaways, sessions you attended or a-ha moments that you're looking forward to sharing with your peers.

Attending in person? Stop by our Maddie's Fund booth (booth #733) to check out Maddie's Connection Zone. Maddie's Connection Zone is a warm, welcoming place to reconnect and chill with new and old friends. You'll have the opportunity to meet some of our special guests including Dr. @Lila Miller, Dr. @Michael Blackwell, Dr. @Sheila Segurson (she/her) and @Rory Adams.

So happy to be here!  I'm Kirsten Lindsay from Last Chance Ranch in Quakertown, PA.  As the Canine Behavior and Enrichment Manager here, I'm excited to be able to watch the presentations and share the great info with my co-workers.
Personally I own one rescue dog, Oberon, who is a big love.  When I adopted him, I was told his fearful nature might result in aggression later in life, and at 2 years old he's absolutely the sweetest thing.  I'm also fostering a pittie mix named Vader, who has the spins, but with a big yard to run in and friends to play with, he seems to spin less each day.
I hope to be able to attend in person some day!

    Kirsten,

I attended the expo and I had amazing time. There were so many different informative sessions offered that is was very hard to choose.  I was able to learn so many things and some of the sessions actually validated what I have been saying to my organization lately.

Hi, I'm Anne Martin from the SF Bay Area (Richmond, CA)! I am the former Executive Director of House Rabbit Society, and am currently seeking new opportunities in animal sheltering/animal welfare.

I've attended the in-person and virtual HSUS Animal Expo events the last couple years and have been a speaker and led virtual roundtables in the past - it's one of my favorite conferences! I'm thankful to Maddie's Fund for the virtual scholarship to allow myself and other folks who aren't able to travel to participate in the in-person event this year, and with the current rapid inflation may not have been able to budget for the remote option, to still be able to participate remotely.

There are so many great virtual sessions - I'm looking forward to:

New data to help understand pet supply and demand

Healing staff trauma and burnout through education and development

Special Session: Do the reunite thing

Foster is the future: Foster tracks can take you there

Keeping people and pets together: Addressing the housing crisis

I'll be joining remotely with my senior cat and 3 rabbits, and hope to join everyone in person next year in New Orleans!

Hi Brittany and Maddie's Fund:  I am excited to be joining you virtually as one of the scholarship recipients-Julie Nettifee, RVT, VTS from Apex, North Carolina.  I currently work in Academia however also volunteer and support local nonprofits such as Vets to Vets United to pair rescue dogs with veterans in need.  I also come from Fairmont, Minnesota and grew up in animal shelter work-in fact after my father passed away, we all committed to developing a shelter in his honor-the Carl Nettifee Memorial Animal Shelter/MCHS.  I look forward to so many of the sessions-not only for CE but to help those that I have the opportunity to counsel, to support, train, and care for shelter animals on so many levels and to enhance the human-animal bond through effective transitions.  All of my own adopted pets have all been rescues-currently have Phoenix, a 12 yo Lab/terrier mix, Paradox, and 8 year old siamese/snowshoe mix and even some rescue freshwater fish.  All with their own stories, all equally amazing!  Also, in 2020 I was named the American Humane Veterinary Nurse Hero!
