    Hello All-

How many of you have a Behavior Hotline at your shelter? Can you tell us about how your hotline works?

We don't have a hotline that runs through our shelter, but we do use Good Pup, which has been amazing and such a great resource to our adopters, fosters and staff here at the shelter working with our more difficult dogs. Here's the link to their website, https://goodpup.com/how-training-works

    Hi Christine,
We don't have a hotline per say but we do have an Adoption Support Counselor that adopters are encouraged to reach out to for assistance or resources to assist with their behavior concerns. We also provide behavior training classes with our behavior team to adopters and fosters so that they can also learn the best approach for them and their pet to work through the behavior and eliminate it. The staff member in that position is not accessible after hours unless their is a question of the safety of the pet or members of the household. We also recommend GoodPups to adopters as an additional resource, or other local trainers that are experienced and certified in various training methods and positive based outcomes.

    Hello All-

I am so glad to see several responses here! I see a couple of you are using Good Pup. Can you tell us more about this program and the who they talk with when they call? What are you all discussing with the community? Do you have set scripts for some of the common questions that you receive? What are those common questions? What about cats?

    Hi Dr. Calder,

Our shelter has a dedicated Behavior Help Line through which we provide assistance for both people who have adopted from our shelter and community members who have pet behavior questions.  The calls come in on a dedicated line and are screened by our Director of Animal Management who responds to the canine behavior calls and passes the feline behavior calls along to me.
