This question was brought up this morning on the
Animal Welfare Leadership Roundup Call.
Here are some ideas that I heard from several organizations:
- some are giving their staff members an extra day off this month
- preparing for whatever could happen by having a low volume of appointments, others are shutting down all next week
- come up with alternative work schedules so that staff can monitor how things are going in their own community and adjust their work schedule (ie. in the case of civil unrest, have to think about where people live and how they commute to work and how it could be affected)
- giving staff lots of flexibility: flexibility for employees to vote, flexibility with operations
- communication plans in place in case your organization needs to close or pivot operations

Subject: Time off for Voting
Hello. Is your org providing PTO or other options to support staff members who are voting? Do you have a staffing contingency plan for the potential of civil unrest after the election? We are considering options and are looking for what others are doing. Thanks!
