  • 1.  Foster/Adoption/Return to Home Transportation Program

    Hi!  I'm with South Suburban Humane Society in Chicago Heights, IL and we're looking to start a transportation program to foster homes, adopter homes, and to return lost pets back home (as well as other pet services as needed).  Who is doing this that I could connect to?  We heard maybe Front Street?  Thank you!

    I'd love to hear more about this, too. Especially if anyone is driving animals back home if their person cannot get to the shelter to redeem them. We did this occassionally at Front Street, but it was nothing formal. I'll be following this!

    I'm interested too. Transportation is a problem and sometimes the reason people don't reclaim. Many times I've been present to help people to reclaim and have seen them be driven to the shelter by family or friend.
    Do you envision the transportation as a pet taxi for any reason, perhaps a subsidized Uber with funding? Would Uber partner?

    I recall several years back an adoption promotion event that involved Uber for transportation. Is anyone out there using Uber to drive pets back home or deliver to a new foster home? Would love to hear more about this.

    Yes! We're actually envisioning Uber as a partner but also a staff/volunteer team to deliver.  We've had a number of requests recently for it and we know that transportation is a barrier in our communities.

    Hi @Amber Freiwald & @Emily Klehm & @Augusta Farley.  Always happy to help people with transport.  Doobert already has more than 33,000 volunteers signed up that ANY organization can use for volunteer transport.  One of the transport types that you can post is a Local Ride which automatically emails, texts and notifies through the Doobert app to relevant volunteers.  You as the organization have full control over ​​​your transport and volunteers, etc.  Here's a short video showing you how they work:

    Hi Chris,

    So by local transportation, this could be utilized if we had foster kittens who needed delivered to a foster home or a pet who needs to get back home after coming in as a stray and the owner doesn't have transportation?  That would be amazing if so!!

    Yes for sure Emily.  Doobert is like volunteer Uber.  Taking kittens to foster, bringing animals to/from adoption events, and we've even piloted clinic rides with DDFL whereby a volunteer picks up an owned animal, brings to the shelter for medical services, and returns them.  All of these are possible.  If you want to ping me at chris@doobert.com we can plan a time to chat.

    Chiming in that Doobert has been very helpful to me for local transport requests- including those that are even 2 hours+ away. I have certainly connected with consistent transport volunteers that want to help on a consistent basis through Doobert, hope it helps! Love the idea of offering this transportation service- that would be so helpful for so many people!
