The Association - 2021 Compensation & Benefits Benchmarking Survey (theaawa.org) that may be helpful for you to see what others are doing in this area in terms of salary. In addition, it might be good to reach out to other animal welfare agencies and government shelters around your area to get an idea of what the salaries are in your area for Humane Agents/ACOs. Hello!
My humane society board is currently faced with the dilemma of appointing a humane agent to keep in line with the definition of being a humane society.
Our county is interesting to say the least concerning animal organizations. Our county dog shelter is currently run by the sheriff's department with an appointed deputy serving as the humane agent and the humane society dealing with essentially every other species. The current deputy/humane agent is retiring this spring and after consulting with our legal representatives, we determined a further trained agent was needed for record keeping, court appearances, etc. We have two options: either employ our own agent or contribute $25,000 to another appointed deputy from the sheriff.
Would anyone be able to share what the 'source' of their humane agent (if you have one) is and what their pay rate/salary is?
