  • 1.  Access to high quality pet food at a reasonable price

Any thoughts on accessing high quality pet food at a good price?  We put pet food into our area blessing boxes on a regular basis during the winter months.  I've contacted several pet food companies without much success.  Any companies that have an outlet for close dated food?

Have you tried Greater Good? (www.greatergood.org) they will donate through their ambassadors program food. Check them out. :)

Yes, I would second the note about Greater Good! We also purchase some pet food through the Wholesale supplier that our shelter uses to purchase supplies and we get a good deal on cost/lb., but you don't see as many common brands on there, so it is limited.

Have you reached out to locate pet stores? Regional chains? Here we have several regional chains (Pet Food Express) that will donate broken bags, returned supplies, stuff not selling well.  They bi-monthly allow rescues and charities to come pick up either cat or dog supplies at the regional distribution center. Your in Arkansas have you reached out to Jeffers's Pet?

I will look up Jeffer's Pet.  Currently our best option has been salvage grocery stores.  Just found ProPlan at about 50 cents a pound and in date, but what's in the store is hit or miss.

    Good Morning,

The other source that seems to be working. Is getting public to donate Costco, Walmart or Sam's Club gift cards. They seem to have online sales of food, potty pads, flea/tick frequently. So with the discount you can get them at low price. Or give the cards to someone. They also will deliver for free if you buy $$.

Many of the org. will ask for donations for pets that have special needs. Usually hitting up local newspapers, mail lists, web sites.

Another route is putting out to the public that you are in need.  But it must be sealed bags,

A small but growing group I can try to connect you with is Realtors that support rescues. Normally, the mid-large offices will do a food drive.  I belong to a group of Realtors nationwide that support rescues.

Jefferies pet is a great business. I love them.
