  • 1.  Are there transport companies or groups we could contract with?

We are looking to transport small animals like mice and rats to other shelters willing to help us, and we'd like to contract with a company to do this rather than send staff or try to patch together a network of drivers.  We are looking at long distances (Rochester, NY to Tennessee, Florida and Texas). Do you have any recommendations?

    Background:
Back in March, our humane law enforcement department seized over 1000 animals from a local animal educator. This included a small number of dogs, cats, potbellied pigs, and even emu, but most of the animals were rats, mice, guinea pigs, rabbits, and other small animals, many of whom were pregnant. After finally getting custody of the animals in June, we have been working diligently to place these animals in homes and looking for transport partners outside of our area to help with placement.

We currently have around 900 mice and over 100 rats we are still trying to rehome, along with a few other species, and we have connected with some shelters and rescues that are willing to take some to place in their communities. We just need to get them there!

Any recommendations would be so helpful!

    Adrienne,

Wow what a seizure of animals.  I am so happy that you all were there to help them  all. Here are a few companies that you may be able to try. I do not have any personal experience with them however a few people that I know of have used them and had no issues.  I am not sure if they are what you need but it I figured it's worth a shot to check them out.

I hope you find what you need.  Thanks for all you do.
