    Posted 04-25-2023 11:08 AM

Has anyone started using ChatGPT in their organization?

AI is a powerful new tool that is already changing the way we work. Community Cats Podcast is putting together a webinar to talk more about ChatGPT and how it can be leveraged to support animal rescue work. From social media content, to fundraising appeals and emails, ChatGPT can lend a hand when you need it most.

This webinar is free to attend! Presentation will be 30 minutes, with 15 minutes for Q&A at the end. Session will be recorded and shared with everyone who registers after the live event has passed.

We do! We use it to draft social media posts, press releases, letters to veterinarians and partners, clinic advertisements, summaries and explanations of why spay/neuter, vaccination etc are important. We then will make edits and changes based on what chat GPT gives us. It has reduced the workload as we find it much easier to edit something than it is to start from scratch.  We also use it to edit things we have created as it is better at catching errors than human reviewers.

We have also started using chatGPT and Bard (Google's version of ChatGPT) to help us update the backend code for our website to help make it more accessible and user friendly.

I definitely recommend exploring possible uses in anyone's day to day work!

    Hi Quinn,
Can you explain how you use AI to update the backend code for your website? How are you making it more accessible and user friendly? Thanks

    Sure!

I don't have any formal experience with website design, but we still need to make updates to improve the user experience. Currently there are pages with accessibility issues, meaning visual impaired individuals or those using screen readers  will have a hard time understanding and navigating the information on our website. Additionally there are components used in our websites that do not appear properly on mobile. Often on mobile the information is cutoff and can't be seen in a mobile view.

We use Wordpress so I have been copying page code from the editor window on each page and pasting it into Bard/Chat GPT and asking it to make the code more responsive. It will often rewrite the code to allow better resizing on mobile devices and to be more accessible to  idividuals using screen readers.

As with any AI generated response, you may still need to review and tweak things, but it is immensely helpful in getting us to where we need to be.

I would start by using a free website accessibility checker tool to identify areas on your pages that are not accessible:

This one doesn't have any ads and is great at showing you exactly what elements you might want to address - WAVE Web Accessibility Evaluation Tools

This one does have ads, but Makes it a  little clearer  why they are recommending the changes. - Accessibility Checker - ADA & WCAG Compliance (Free Scan)

Yes! Of course, it's a tool to just get a jump-start and content is edited for our specific purpose.

ChatGPT is the best I've tested so far.

Yes! I use it to start my writing process for every adoption bio! My bios before were so short and concise and this really fills it out and makes it much more appealing. Also saves a lot of time! It has been amazing

I have a really bad time making things simple and sweet. I use ChatGPT to help me make blanket emails and phone scripts, and some policies/procedures. It takes a bit of prompting and tweaking but it has severely reduced the time it takes for me to write them up. I have tested it with some pet profiles and found it to really excel at that! If you want to mix it up, you can have ChatGPT impersonate someone famous. My favorite has been pet profiles in the tone of foghorn leghorn.

I'm excited to see other applications. I could see it really helping out the non-profit sector.

I don't like ChatGPT. It writes so predictably, and you can recognize a text written by it straight away.
We use Copysmith. For content like social media posts and emails, that's the best choice. I recommend it.
You can find other AI writing tools here: https://writingtools.co.uk/pricing.html if you are tired of ChatGPT.

I disagree that you can easily recognize when something is written using ChatGPT. You can change the tone and the way that it writes. For example you can tell it to write a "whimsical bio", a "fun bio",  a "rhyming bio"  etc. You can also edit the text it writes if you don't like it or think it sounds too stiff.

I have gotten tons of compliments on my bios and people think I am a poet at times because of the ChadGPT bios. They have very much improved our adoption interest.

    Posted 08-16-2024 11:19 AM

A newbie in the industry, I've recently joined the KWSP Humane Society up in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. I already used ChatGPT extensively when I was working in marketing in the tech sector but I am finding that I am using it more frequently (3+ times a day) than ever!

All of the uses that have been mentioned above are ways in which I utilize the tool, but I also wanted to point out that one of the ways that I use it and have found that a number of my colleagues in marketing do too, is as a sounding board when developing communications strategies and plans.

I'm the type of worker that enjoys letting ideas percolate and will often solicit opinions from my colleagues as a way of 'testing out' a theory that I'm developing into a plan or strategy. ChatGPT has been instrumental in this approach where I can bounce some of my crazier ideas off of it and, through the discussion, start to formulate a plan.

Post plan presentation, I will often follow up with ChatGPT and tell it how the meeting went, upload any notes that I took into its' memory, and plan next steps based on my inputs.

Our users have the ability to write an animal bio with the help of chatGPT in AnimalsFirst. So far I've heard positive reviews! I wish we'd had this when I was working at my old shelter - after a few hundred animals writing bios gets so incredibly tedious.

That is exactly my thinking. I wish that we had a tool like this back in the original Twitter days. It was agonizing. :)

Work smarter, not harder, is what I say. Engage with it (ChatGPT) and refine your thinking through it, it really helps me with that.

I use ChatGPT a lot for drafting content, but I totally get what you mean about it sometimes being a bit predictable. Even when I tweak the tone, certain patterns still show through. That’s why I usually go back and edit manually to make sure it sounds more natural and engaging.

If you're worried about AI-generated text being too obvious, there are tools that can humanize the writing so it avoids detection. I’ve had good experiences with unaimytext, which helps refine AI-generated content to sound more natural. Might be worth checking out.
