    Hey Everyone!

My apologies if this is under the wrong category but I didn't find something more appropriate like "shelter operations" to label this question.

Is anyone using baby scales that they really like and would recommend for weighing kittens daily? We need ones that can be calibrated but that are actually accurate. Ours fluctuate too much even with calibration.

Secondly,  does anyone have any dog beds they are loving and are easily washed down with the hose in a kennel setting for the shelter? We've been using Kurunda beds but we want to try something new out.

Would appreciate ANY and ALL recommendations!

    Thank you,

Hello.  I purchased a human baby scale (digital) from amazon for about 40 bucks. It weighs in lbs, kg, oz, and lbs plus oz.  The trick of course is getting the kitten to sit still in the middle of the scale to be accurate.  But I do a lot of young kitten fostering and I have had great luck with using it to monitor weight, eating, etc.  Sometimes I put some Churu on the scale for them to sniff or lick to get them to hold still enough for an accurate weight.  As a bonus, I can clean it with Rescue in between litters.

We use food scales for kittens under 5 weeks then we switch to baby scales. It is hard to keep them still. I like the Churu on the scale to keep them on. That's a great idea.

Some scales have a "hold " function that averages out the weight for the wigglers. A lot of digital baby scales on market for a decent price. Just make sure the sensitivity rating  will detect very low weights. We weigh all of our shelter cats  once a week. Cats can mask illness really well. Weight change can be a clue to illness and failure to thrive.
