  • 1.  Cat TV Time Limitation?

    Posted 23 days ago

    Hi Everyone!

I was wondering if anyone knows how much time per day Cat TV (videos showing prey animals such as birds/mice to provide enrichment) should be limited to? I recently attended Jackson Galaxy's Cat Pawsitive 360 and he mentioned that the time these videos are provided should be limited in order to prevent desensitization, but I didn't get a chance to ask how long was appropriate to play per day. I am the Cat Behavior Lead at a shelter and my plan is to have alternating videos of different prey animals available for staff to play during morning feeding (so they can "hunt" then eat) and then switch to calming music for the rest of the day. I was trying to decide if we should limit it to our morning cleaning time (around 5 hours) or if it should be less time and be closer to 2 hours (most likely how long it would take for food prep and then time for them to eat). I am leaning towards the 2 hour mark, so they can transition to the groom/sleep part of their cycle more seamlessly. Any advice would be appreciated!
