A group of shelter staff members, volunteers and conservation orgs wants to convert empty land contiguous to the shelter to an ecosystem restoration area that can double as a dog walk and enrichment space as well as possibly an open, or partially open, low-impact space for the surrounding industrial and low-income neighborhood.
By including the latter population we have an opportunity to become a bigger presence in the community for volunteerism, animal welfare and conservation. Further, there will be more grants available in addition to the ecosystem restoration funds. Has anyone ever created an area like this? Pros? Cons?
