Donations in kind

I am joining The Street Dog Coalition to provide behavior services to pets of people experiencing, or at risk, of homelessness. The SDC provides free vet care. I was told to expect about 30 pet guardians. I would like to get donations for harnesses and leashes for the big dogs but not sure what is the best way to do this. I have zero experience with "fundraising." I already post on Nextdoor and got 600 hits and a few Likes but no donation. I appreciate any suggestion. Thank you.

    Hi Julielani,

Thank you for providing your behavior services to those in need!

Something you could try to get the specific harnesses and leashes you're looking for are to create a wish list on Amazon or Chewy. You can then create a QR code that links directly to your wish list with the specific items needed. You can then share that QR code on social media or print out flyers with it and approach businesses, vet offices, pet stores, etc. and ask them to allow you to post the flyer or ask them to share on social media.

When people can see a specific item you're looking for that costs $15-$40, it's much easier to get them to take action and buy. Without a specific call to action (ie. click this, buy this, share this), many people will just give you a like and keep it moving. If you create that wish list with the specific items, please also share here! Let me know if you need any assistance creating the QR code for the wish list, I'm happy to help.

    Hi Charlotte,

Thank you for your insight and suggestion. I create a list with Amazon but had a problem creating a QR code. I use the QR code generator from Canva. If you can show me how to create one, I would appreciate the help. Here is the URL link for Amazon's wishlist. Check out my list on Amazon

That Amazon link didn't work for me. You might need to go into the list and make it a Public list so that others can see it. Just go to Manage List -> then set the Privacy to Public. Here's an example --

    Hi Charlotte,
It took me a little while but I think it is now public. Here is the shareable link : https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/E2R4910HKAZ0?leftNavSection=Reorder&ref_=abls_lnv_rl

Perfect! Looks great to me now! I went ahead and created a QR code for it and will attach and include below.

For anyone who wants to know how to create a free quick QR code, you can do it easily in the Chrome browser. To do so, just click on the share icon that's in the address bar then select "Create QR Code":

You'll then see a QR code created with a dinosaur in the middle. You can adjust the URL if you need to from the box below it then click "Download" to save the QR code to your device to use for promotional purposes:

I echo what Charlotte said, but also check out Cuddly. They are an animal-specific fundraising organization and they can probably help you! Tagging one of their awesome team members here @Aurora Velazquez

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried to register with Cudly but since I am not a rescue, I can't.  I will check with Aurora.

Check out Facebook free groups and local dog groups. Are you looking for new supplies or dog supplies in good shape?

    Hi Heron,

For the free clinic on April 29th, I got both. A friend gave me some used but in good shape equipment which I washed to make sure they were clean. I also added some of mine to the mix and people appreciate just about anything. I also donated 10 large no-pull harnesses I got from an Amazon flash sale.  We saw at least 40 dogs during the clinic, I spoke to several guardians and it was pretty easy to convince them to switch from the regular collars to the harnesses. Actually, we ran out of harnesses because people were asking for them. Our next clinic is July so I have several months to try to secure as many harnesses as I can. Any suggestion on how to get both used and new harnesses is most welcome. Thank you.

Sharing a photo of little Mali. She is only 8 months old and already wearing an L.  I also gave her an XL because I know she is going to outgrow the one quickly.
