  • 1.  Donor Thank You Gift

    Posted 07-03-2023 07:04 AM

Hi! We have a donor that has contributed almost $2M to our organization mainly for community spay/neuters. Have any of you created a unique 'thank you' gift for your top donors that shows the impact they have made over the years?

    Hi Jordan!

That is a fabulous donation!  Congratulations!  I keep thinking about all the animals who can now receive spay/neuter surgeries and what that means to your community!  For a gift, if it were me, I would keep it simple, like a handmade card with a  note. Maybe an artistic person could create the card as a donation making it special.

Wow!! Congrats! I wonder if you could use canva to make either a short video or an "infographic" that shows their impact?

Could you name your surgery center after them? Hang a nice plaque that says something like "The John Smith Surgery Center" in honor of all the life saving and over population prevention performed for the county.

In addition to a card, what about creating some type of acknowledgement, a plaque or something simple like a framed acknowledgment,  and displaying it in the building?  We have acknowledgements in our animal rooms for special donations.

    What a wonderful donation! Bravo!

Many large donors don't want you to spend money on a "gift" to thank them. Naming something like a wing, or a room after them and announcing it on your social media & or newsletter is a good way to thank them.  If you have an annual "donor recognition" event, getting a personalized gift donated by a local artist and thanking them publicly at the event would also be appropriate.

That's incredible! We have many naming opportunities throughout our facility, but two unique donor recognition pieces included in our shelter are 1) a memorial statue of our donor's cat near our feline adoption center, and 2) a wall sharing the story of our president/CEO and the dog that inspired her to begin a career in animal welfare.

Hello. I saw many wonderful ideas on how to thank the donor, all of which can work. However, every donor is different; before you make a big public announcement about who donated, ensure they agree. Some donors may want to remain anonymous and wish nothing in return except a hand written thank you card.
