  • 1.  FeLV testing, revisited (for the millionth time...)

    Posted 06-17-2022 08:57 AM
Good morning: Realizing all the pitfalls associated with FeLV testing, our shelter is still trying to come up with a testing protocol that works for us and our community. Can anyone help with information about how long maternal FeLV antibodies can last in the kittens? I attended the "One and Done" presentation, and I'm trying to help determine when to do the "one." If we test too soon and have positive kittens due to maternal antibodies, we are not going to have luck placing them in our community.

Thanks in advance for your time.

From page 9 of the 2020 AAFP Feline Retrovirus Testing and Management Guidelines,
https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/pdf/10.1177/1098612X19895940: "Testing is not confounded by maternally acquired immunity or FeLV vaccination."

Hi Nancy - thanks for answering! Although I can't follow your link, I think I should be able to access the AAFP document somewhere. How did I/we miss this?!?
