We have seen similar things in our rescue. Our adoptions over the last two weeks have picked up some but overall for the last 6 months we have adopted less kittens than a year ago. We also have a difficult time recruiting and holding onto fosters. The cats and kittens have been so sick this year which requires more work from the fosters. I think some come into fostering not realizing the the multiple possibilities of illness when dealing with young kittens and the time required. We are all foster based so our adoption events are every weekend and the fosters have to bring their kittens to the event. I think that is an issue for many people also, especially when they work full-time.

I am with a dog rescue group that covers Louisville, KY to Lexington, KY to Cincinnati, OH.  The last few months we too have had a decrease in foster and adoption applications. We have puppies up to senior dogs. Shelters near us are overrun.

    Hello,

Yes and no. We do so much social media for entertainment that it sparks fostering. We tell Foster Friday stories and use the Shelterluv application to aggregate the foster applications to send a group BCC email. We know it takes more than once to ask, and it has to be compelling. We also do a BAND  application, which is accessible as a community group chat platform, so there is support from other foster families. They love to reach out to each other all day long. It is a great support and vent opportunity for the tough stuff. Our Kitten Bottle Babies has 160 members, and it is active.  The dog foster group Paws Button Dof Foster has 43 members.  Not everyone is active, but it is one step closer to becoming a foster. They showed interest, applied, and joined BAND, and now we need to build their confidence by being a spectator for a while.
