Halloween is coming. This year, our nonprofit, Life of Kai wants to bust a spooky myth with our homegrown story of BK - our loving, curious and rescued black cat mascot. BK is anything but bad luck! Through humane education, we showcase kindness to pets by helping people understand and teach them how to co-exist with us. BK's story highlights what happens when play turns a little too rough - when he learns that nipping humans doesn't work. Rather than being punished, BK learns a new way to play - one built on trust, empathy, and communication. Check out BK's story (the Halloween version with a kids contest) - because at Life of Kai, compassion is the real magic. Our Chanel has other "kind" stories. Feel free to use or share the channel's content. The Life of Kai: Kai's Kindness Stories. Enjoy.

the video with BK learning appropriate play is wonderful! I just went through, actually I should say 'am going through' this with my tail amputee foster cat that I adopted. He is very, very playful and was nipping at me. I know that you should use positive reinforcement as opposed to negative, but I didn't realize how automatic saying 'no!' was for me. Now, I have learned to disengage and let the moment end. Then, come back with a toy and a treat to reinforce the positive behavior. Also, I adopted my black cat from San Francisco SPCA on 10/29/22 and he has been bringing my family joy, cuddles and laughter ever since <3

    Hi Alycia,

Thank you for your response. It is so wonderful to hear BK's story is helpful. We continued to learn so much from BK. For a community cat, he is quite amazing. We planned to create more stories about teaching pets positively and humanely using BK as our muse. I volunteered for SFSPCA from 2015 to 2019 working with big fearful dogs. It is a great shelter to volunteer with. So glad your kitty brings you much joy. We are working on more BK stories so make sure to check the channel from time to time.

That's such a great initiative. I like how you're using stories to teach empathy instead of fear. Black cats have always been unfairly labeled, so it's nice to see projects that help kids learn compassion through fun content like this.

    Hi Saimon,

Thank you for your kind words and support. Humane education gives animals voice and agency something we often overlooked and helps kids grow up to be kinder and more thoughtful. The world needs a kinder future.

That's such a thoughtful project. Black cats deserve more love and less superstition. Sharing stories like BK's really helps people see their true, gentle side.
