  • 1.  Insurance carrier?

    Posted 09-16-2023 07:47 AM

We're a Texas foster home-based, breed -specific 501(c)(3) rescue group that takes in about 175-200 dogs annually and we need to find an insurance carrier.

It seems fewer and fewer companies are willing to cover rescue. :(

Do you have any recommendations or who is covering your group?

    We appreciate your guidance.

A few months after your post but perhaps you still need this information. We had a really difficult time finding insurance this past year as well (we are also a Texas foster-based rescue for cats and dogs, all breeds). This informaiton is from https://resources.bestfriends.org/article/animal-rescue-insurance:

Best Friends Animal Society does not endorse any of them, but these companies may be able to help if you are having trouble finding an insurance agent who is responsive to your needs.

    • Kennel Pak (www.kennelpak.com) has been in the business of providing coverage for animal sheltering and nonprofit organizations for many years.
    • Prince Associates, Inc., offers insurance for animal welfare organizations. The direct page for the animal-related insurance is www.princeins.com/. The phone number is 516-822-6550 and the e-mail address is info@princeins.com.
    • The organizations in the Nonprofits Insurance Alliance Group (www.insurancefornonprofits.org) insure more than 11,000 nonprofits in 31 states and Washington, D.C. Many free services, such as webinars and access to risk management tools, are available to member-insureds.
    • AWOIP provides insurance for animal shelters, foster-based animal rescue groups and lots of other animal rescue organizations.
    • DogGone Insurance offers various types of insurance to animal rescue groups and shelters in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Also, we ended up going with Philadelphia Insurance, 800-952-4320. They require anyone working with the animals to take the Maddie's animal care training for either cats or dogs but it is useful information so that wasn't an issue for us.
