Hello!
I was wondering if anyone knew of any grants for medical care of dogs in foster care. A friend of mine is fostering a dog that was abandoned in a house (he came into her work at an emergency vet clinic and was extremely malnourished. She knew she had to help the sweet pup so requested to foster him!)
He needs to have some eye surgery to deal with an ulcer and it is pretty costly- he was brought in through a city shelter that has limited resources (not the one I am connected with and ours doesn't have any assistance programs like this) and doesn't even have an official foster program so they (the foster) are going to pay for it out of their own personal funds. They don't want it to rupture so he is already on the surgery schedule. Unfortunately, most of the programs I am aware of are for pet owners with financial struggles and/or require individuals to apply prior to the vet services, which they are not the owners of the dog, I don't think they would qualify as low income, and he is already scheduled for the procedure.
I would love to be able to connect them with a grant that would help them recoup some of the surgery costs, so if anyone knows of any programs they could look into, please pass them along!
They are wonderful pet guardians and are often fostering animals, so I know they are always putting in more to the animal community. Thanks!
