Moving a municipal shelter to create a plan for the future

  • 1.  Moving a municipal shelter to create a plan for the future

Over the past two years, we have spearheaded work to raise money to pay for improvements to our local city animal shelter in Grass Valley / Nevada City.  At the time there was poor signage and 4 unusable kennels. We made a proposal that was accepted by the police department that operates the shelter. We recently completed what we set out to do (see video about the catio we made an other improvements). Does anyone else have experience in working with their municipal shelter in creating a plan for a better shelter in the future? This shelter is over 50 years old and is in need of lots of improvements. A new building would be ideal but I don't know if the money is there to do that.  Thank you.

Cats at this shelter needed more space to exercise, socialize and get fresh air. With the help of our donors, Rational Animal spearheaded this project that had our skilled volunteers successfully repair kennels and enrich them for the cats.
