Placement of a difficult to adopt dog

    Hi everyone!

I am writing about a dog at our local pound.

Ellie has been at the pound for 10 months and has had only one adoption look. She came in as a neglect/abuse case, weighing ~20 lbs (now weighs 70!). She wouldn't let any of the animal control officers come near her for quite awhile, and just for the first time recently she rolled in the grass (after MONTHS of being there). She is fearful of men and growls, but has not bitten. She is not very tolerant of dogs - has only walked with them, and when they get too close she growls and barks.

The animal control officers are responsible for promoting the dogs and helping them get adopted. They are feeling lost with Ellie and the little interest she has had, and also her potentially high needs in a forever home. They asked me if I knew of any rescue-based "fosters" that might able to take her. They are open to help transport her (even out of state) if there is a better rescue/setting for her. They don't want her to go to another kennel at another shelter, but if there is a different home-like rescue setting for her they are open to discussing.

That leads me to you all! Does anyone know of any contacts that I could reach out to to see if they have any leads on a placement for her outside of the pound? I know it is incredibly hard to find places for dogs like these, and many do not even exist. Just wanted to see if there were any ideas.

    Thank you!!
