Are there any discussions or threads that go into what it takes for a for Profit business to create an arm of that business as a non-profit?   When I'm doing research most of the info I am seeing says it's very difficult.  Thoughts?  Anyone have experience with this??  We are an Animal Hospital that helps by spaying/neutering the stray dogs in our community that are not claimed and need to go into rescues.  Thank you in advance for your help!

    Hi Diana,

Sounds like you can totally do this! Thanks for helping the rescues.

I would say it's only difficult if you don't have a law degree and/or specialize in non-profit law. It also depends on what state you are located in. Some states make it easier or harder to set up a non-profit in general. Your best bet is to find a lawyer with a 501c3 focus who can help. We found that type of lawyer when we set up our Tripawds Foundation as a separate entity from our business back in 2014.
