  • 1.  Rehoming a senior dog with bite history

    Posted 05-15-2023 11:05 AM

I have a 10 year old pit husky mix that recently bit my child in the face, unprovoked. I am absolutely devastated. We have had him since he was a puppy and he has no history of aggression towards humans. He does have a history of aggression towards other dogs.

We have an appointment with the veterinarian to rule out illness/pain.

I want to be proactive in looking for a potential new home for him, as my husband is very uncomfortable with the thought of he and my daughter being in the same house. It is unrealistic for us to be able to separate them at all times.

I have reached out to rescues and they are unwilling to take him in with a bite history and I know the humane society would be an automatic death sentence.

I am in the Atlanta metro area, but I am willing to travel wherever needed to ensure he has a safe and loving home to go to.

He is up to date on all vaccines. Taking heartworm and flea/tick prevention. Around 90lbs and in good health. Walks well on a leash and is a loving boy.

Any advice or leads on a potential home would be so incredibly appreciated. I am even willing to continue covering the costs of all his living expenses.

So very sorry to hear about the incident with your Pittie and daughter. Continue reaching out to senior dog rescues and/or Pit mix in your area or even up to the northern states.  We are in WA State and have rescued young and seniors with bite histories. We have been able to retrain these dogs and found them loving homes without children.

    Best of luck to you.
