My rescue group in Northern New Jersey works with Pirate Paws, a nonprofit in Puerto Rico to bring abandoned, injured, and abused puppies and dogs up North. Our mission has become more difficult—and more frustrating— since Hurricane Maria. Thousands of people fled the island and left their pets behind. Businesses closed, there are no jobs and so many people can no longer afford to feed their dogs, so they are dumping them.

We and Pirate Paws do what we can, but we need to do more. We have to do more. Does anyone know of other rescue groups that take in puppies and dogs from Puerto Rico? Can anyone suggest ways to reach out to other organizations and provide info on how they can hook up Pirate Paws? I have made it my mission to help this organization and the hundreds of sweet, adoptable strays they rescue and foster every year. Please help.!

Hi!  I was wondering what is involved in bringing animals here from Puerto Rico?  We actually were just talking about it a couple of months ago after the "Amanda to the Rescue" episode.  Does the organization taking animals in incur any expenses such as medical or travel, or is a group like Pirate Paws transporting them to the states and shelters in the states?

I sent a long reply to your questions about rescuing dogs from Puerto Rico. Did you ever receive it?

I have a small nonprofit in Puerto Rico named Furiend Flight we are always in desperate need of fosters, rescues, and adopters in the States. We vet them, and fly them out for a better chance at living. If anyone is interested in helping, please get in touch anytime!
