  • 1.  Shelter Safety Protocol Video Trainings for Volunteers

    Posted 10-10-2023 08:48 AM

Our Animal Shelter serves several communities in the Chicagoland area. We're currently working on creating safety training videos for new volunteers and would like to know if anyone has already made such videos and is willing to share. While we'll provide training on handling dogs and cats, we're specifically interested in making a video on general shelter safety protocols. Some examples of topics we're looking to cover include the physical demands of working in a shelter, being aware of potential hazards like wet floors, loose animals, and electrical safety, as well as proper disposal of biohazardous waste. We appreciate any help you can provide. Thank you!

    Hi, Steve:

It sounds like you want to make short videos specific to your shelter, and you're looking for examples from other shelters, and I'm looking forward to seeing what people can share.

In the meantime, here are some more general trainings on Maddie's University that may be of interest:

Avoiding Dog Fights in the Shelter

    Feral and Fractious Cat Handling

    Dog Handling in the Shelter

    Best,

    Erika

    Hi Erika,

Thanks for sharing the videos; those are helpful.

We want to create our own training videos, specifically regarding safety concerns inside the shelter. We want the focus not to be on handling dogs and cats (we will have specific videos for that) but rather on general safety concerns for volunteers, such as slippery floors, handling cleaning agents, disposable of dog and cat waste, etc.

Hopefully, someone from the forum has some examples.

    Thanks again for your help!

    Steve
