  • 1.  spay and neuter voucher program

    Posted 02-27-2024 08:44 AM

We had an old program that the owner would have to jump through hoops to get a voucher. Rabies vaccine, license at the cost of an non altered animal, and proof of income for the whole household.

We are looking to start a different program and make it a little easier to get. We don't have a lot of money to give out, but something is better than nothing. Hoping we can look at other programs already running to model it off.

    1. re name the program
    2. make it easier!

    Thanks !!

We are starting a voucher program as well. We received a 150k grant that we are using for our voucher program. If you want to connect, I can walk you through what we are doing.

I am also interested to see what others are doing.

We are doing it differently.  We post a link to a Google Form on our website.  Individuals sign up.  We call them to discuss the pet and then schedule their surgery.  We pay a negotiated reduced rate directly to the vet which covers spay/neuter and rabies.  The owner may opt to pay for any other type of service directly to the vet.  We just started this in February and it is working well.  We have not yet had any no-shows but we've only done 10 procedures.  :-)   This is entirely funded through donations (and hopefully at some point grants) and we only do those we have money for.   At 4 weeks into the program we have 97 animals signed up.  A second vet in town has actually signed on to the program to help.   Here's our process and the form if you'd like to take a look.   https://spayedandaid.org/spay%2Fneuter-program

thank you, I printed all your info.  Our next hard part is getting the local vets on board, we only have two in our area. How did you get your vets on board with this program.

We've also had a ton of media coverage for our program which has been so helpful.  We only launched our nonprofit on January 5.

Just checked out your information. What a great program! Love seeing communities doing a spay/neuter program. I am currently working on a spay/neuter program for our small rural community where it is needed very badly. I hope to have enough funds to get started in July. Ours will be a donation funded program as well. Thanks for sharing your information.

We have a voucher program but we have difficulty getting vet offices to accept them. Most vets are demanding payment the day of service.

Any suggestions on getting vets on board?

We don't use the vouchers.  Instead we put money "on deposit on our account" at the vet.  Then we reconcile at the end of the month.

That's a great idea! How many vet clinics do you work with?

We only started our program in January 2024.  We are working with 2 clinics and it is working well so far.  (We are in rural Kentucky.)
